Out of the Closet and Into the Fire, by Jan H Wolfe, is a curated series of stories about gay life from the perspective of 16 different people. All characters are based on real stories told or sent to her by real people. They’ve been edited, condensed, and changed to make the stories more universal, more stage-worthy, and to protect identities. The actors inhabit these characters and talk directly to the audience. They tell stories that range from funny to heartbreaking. They speak of loss, fear, resilience, and hope. The staging is simple as if the audience was sitting in a living room with interesting guests. This show runs for 2 hours, although stories can be removed to shorten the show.
